Got asked today: "Why do you mentor?"
My answer is that every mentoring session reveals something new. Not just about others - about myself too. Let me explain:
When I was starting, I was lost in a maze of ML blogs, and courses and my mind running in 10 directions at once. "Which framework to learn?" "Is my math good enough?" The same questions I get asked today.
But now I realize that these are all patterns. The same fears I had? They're universal. That anxiety about not being good enough, about moving too slow - everyone feels it. It is like clockwork.
Teaching others via my blogs has helped me to internalize and organize my chaos. I have tried to manage my random bookmarks into structured roadmaps to help those in need.
Growth does flow both ways in mentoring. While helping others navigate their ML journey, I get to strengthen my own foundations too. Every question makes me think deeper. Oh, this is something I never thought about.
I have realized that sometimes all people need is validation and then they succeed. And selfishly, it feels good to tell them that you have been through that yourself and they can too. Watching them go from self-doubt to landing their job or at least trying things out? That is where the real magic happens. And I have come to love those moments so much that I wait for these 1:1 Mentorship calls now.
All in all, I have now realized that learning strategies matter more than knowledge and I will try to keep sharing them with the LinkedIn folks. So, want to accelerate your ML journey? Let's connect! Drop a comment. Will try to answer as many post comments as I can. ♻️ Restack this to share it with your network.
P.S. Also, just got verified on Topmate today. In case you want to have a personalized 1:1 session, I'll share my Topmate profile: https://topmate.io/mlwhiz
